Gary Hamer Rees (Born 1948, Glanamman), is a Welsh oil painter, notable for his depictions of mid-20th Century working class people and landscapes of the South Wales Coalfield.
Growing up in the coal mining town of Upper Brynamman, Carmarthenshire, he studied art at Carmarthen School of Art and Birmingham School of Art from 1966 to 1969.
His work is greatly influenced by his upbringing in close proximity to both heavy industry and rugged rural landscapes. His paintings depict the impact of the coal mining industry on the working and social lives of people in South Wales during the mid 20th Century.
His work has been exhibited in Mall Galleries, London; Old Hall Gallery, Cowbridge; Giles Gallery, Pontyclun; and in the Albany Gallery, Cardiff.
